Canada needs to avert a COVID-19 crisis. As the cases and death rates spike every day, it’s essential to following physical distancing rules and use protective gear, or our hospitals will be overwhelmed soon.

The country’s Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO), Dr. Theresa Tam, says that Canada could see 20,000 cases every day at the end of the year, with a significant increase in hospitalizations and deaths. She says that Canada is “not on a good trajectory” and that reversing the course will require a “combined effort” from citizens and public health authorities.

At R Courier, we work around the clock to ensure that you receive your critical medical packages at this time. As a medical client, when you need reliability — you can turn to us. Our team has decades of experience delivering medical parcels.

We were hard at work when the first case of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) struck the nation in 2003 — 251 people were infected with SARS in Canada, and Toronto was the epicentre.

Although the cases in Canada are surging, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. For one, there are new lockdowns that should help control the second wave. For the other, there are a number of promising coronavirus vaccines on the horizon.

    • The Oxford Vaccine: Developed by researchers at the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca, the vaccine ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 is 70% effective in preventing COVID-19 and can be 90% effective when given in the right dose. The vaccine is given in two doses, 28 days apart. Clinical trials continue for the Oxford vaccine.

  • Moderna’s Vaccine: The mRNA-1273 vaccine is developed by U.S. biotech company Moderna and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Early studies say it is 94.5% effective in protecting against COVID-19. While the vaccine relies on unapproved technology, it is faster and easier to develop than traditional vaccines.
  • Pfizer’s Vaccine: German biotechnology company BioNTech and Pfizer have developed a vaccine that uses similar technology to mRNA-1273. At the end of the phase 3 data analysis, the vaccine appears to be 95% effective at preventing COVID-19.

Canada is in the top five list of countries to receive doses of a novel coronavirus vaccine according to Dominic LeBlanc, the country’s minister of intergovernmental affairs: “The three that appear the first to likely be approved for use because they’re safe and effective [are] AstraZeneca, Moderna and Pfizer.”

With millions of doses under contract, there is light at the end of the tunnel for Canadians. The first six million doses are expected to arrive in early January. Here, if medical courier services are needed, R Courier has the potential to be at the frontlines.
